Fantastic
By David
This book is great. It covers a great variety of skin conditions in depth, beginning with a general discussion of terminology and Western etiologies of skin conditions, and an exploration of Chinese concepts of disease processes that result in skin problems. Then for each condition or category of conditions, it breaks things down according to Western diagnosis.
The meat of it is in the differential Chinese diagnosis, prescribing a large variety of herbal formulas, including, in many cases, a variety of experience formulas from Chinese doctors to choose from, some with results from statistical studies, or case studies.
It also includes some acupuncture recommendations, and dietary and lifestyle recommendations, though the bulk of the material is devoted to diagnosis and herbs.
The only thing I dislike about this book is that it probably should best be paired with a dermatology atlas, as there are few photos. It would have been nice to have more visual aids to describe the difference between, for instance, conditions from damp-heat and those from blood deficiency.
All in all, it's been a great resource for me.
