THE BEST BOOK FULL OF STRATEGIES FOR RAMPING UP DAILY WORD COUNT!

The 1K+ writing system is a solid book that has a no-fail plan for getting your word count up. I ahem read a lot of books on the subject and most of them have the same advice, but this book by Akash Karia has more value in that he runs through all the steps from the books outline to waking up early and cranking out the words. If staring at a blank screen [as a writer] has always been a problem or you just can’t get into the writing flow, the 1K system can cure all of that. From this book you can double or triple your writing speed by putting into action the core strategies the author has used for tripling and quadrupling his own writing speed
Here is the grit of the material and everything writer’s need to get that 1K per hour written:
• Do your research first. This speeds up the writing time by 4x. Research by using Google Keywords, blogs, articles, podcasts, books and interviews;
• Think about your book before you sleep;
• Write down all your ideas. Make folders in Evernote or Dropbox and record all the information you gather;
• Keep a list of links that you use for research;
• Write only about the things that you are interested in;
• Create an outline: make a list of chapter titles and add 3-6 main points to discuss per chapter.
• Schedule your best time to write. Block off time blocks for your wiring. Stay focused during the writing process.
• Set your daily writing target and determine how many words per hour you’d have to crank out;
• Avoid distractions when writing; set up your environment: cut off the internet, turn off your cell phone, and test out various environments when writing;
• Try the Pomodoro technique for 25 minute blocks of time;
• Don’t edit while writing. This kills your writing speed.
• Stream of consciousness writing: allow yourself to write as thoughts just come to you;
• Go back and fix mistakes later—grammar, spelling, and prepositions can all be corrected later. Don’t edit while you go.
• Don’t put a period at the end of the sentence/stop mid-sentence. The next day you can pick up where you left off.
• Decide to DOUBLE your writing speed. By doing this you motivate yourself to push through it.
• Keep Track of Word Count: Use an excel sheet for recording your writing session and the word count everyday/session. This is a great way to measure progress and at the end of the day see how far you have come;
• Set a consistent time for writing each day. Stick to the schedule. If you feel like not writing one day, than don’t allow yourself to do anything. Practice doing nothing.
• And finally, FOCUS on just one writing project at once. This will ensure that you get the one thing done before you move on to the next one.
• Beat procrastination by following the ASS in CHAIR strategy!
This book is packed full of great suggestions, techniques and strategies. Even if you only apply 30% of what you find in here you’ll be the much better for it. I have already started the habit of writing every morning by waking up with what I am going to be doing for that day and the words just start flowing into the story. Great stuff! This is one of the best books on ramping up word count and I like the idea that you have to make the decision that you want to get better at it so that you can get better at it. A definite recommend for authors, bloggers and anyone looking to turn writing into a career with high daily word count.

There were a few useful tips in this book but the redundancy and repetitive responses were distracting and a bit frustrating. I guess it would be easy to reach 1K+ words if you repeat the same concepts over and over again. Although doing so took away from the quality of the book, the information provided was pretty good.

Another concise, practical book, that abstains from needless words and gives you what you need!

Once again this author has written a concise, succient book, that has more applicability than other books many times larger. Good things do come in small packages. I tired of long drawn out tome's that are full of superfluous digressions that ensure the book has little pratical value. I have used this author's books to write my own book, something I never thought I would do. Better yet, he showed me how to publish those books, and that is it not difficult. Now, in this book, I have learned how to become "non-stuck." I often am overwhelmed when I write, fearing I cannot find enough words to fill a book. This book tells you, shows you, how to get past that, and I am using the tips to write my 3rd book! Thanks again Akash!
