Michele Wong McSween is a mom, fashion designer, author and a fourth generation Chinese American. She resides in Brooklyn, NY with her husband, three sons, and French Bulldog. McSween holds degrees from University of California at Berkeley and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Growing up in Sacramento, CA, she never learned Chinese and wanted to be sure her own boys were confident with Chinese language and culture. After enrolling them in early-learning Mandarin classes, McSween looked for appropriate Mandarin bedtime reading and found that little was available. She created Gordon & Li Li with an appealing, simple and modern design aesthetic that would engage kids and parents alike.

A great introduction to everyday Mandarin

My 2 year-old loves this book! He's been watching Ni Hao, Kai Lan and was really excited to expand his Mandarin vocabulary. He has about 10 words now and is using them interchangeably with English; it's been wonderful to see his functional language expand!

My only complaint is that you really do need to know how to read Pinyin to get anything out of this book, but since Pinyin is really not too difficult, it's worth it if you want to introduce your child to Mandarin.

The pictures are very cute and the words are in English, pinyin, a "sound out" version of pin yin, and the Chinese character, simplified. My sons, aged 3 and 1 love to look through it everyday. I like it so much I plan to give it to friends and family with kids who are interested in learning Mandarin.

Great first book!

I purchased this book to help my son learn Mandarin. It's definitely a great book if you already speak Mandarin and want to teach it to your children. It may be a little difficult if you don't speak Mandarin.
My son enjoys the pictures in it as well.

The vast amount of research neatly organized into both this and "Starting an eBay Business For Dummies" makes these excellent reference books, though Marsha's treatment of any given subject matter is not boring judging from my reading of random pages here and there.

She did perfectly on both of my books Authored by her. I would give her 10 out of 5 stars if mathematically possible.

It's a PERSONAL growth book at best; not business-related

I excitedly purchased this book after reading "Ladies Who Launch". Boy, do I miss her co-author! This leap out on her own was clearly written either too quickly or with her kids proofreading (there are not only a multitude of grammatical errors, but also one place where the title of the next section is run into the last sentence of the previous, with a random number in between). One quote that she marked as 'unknown' is a famous Bible verse (that, if she could use Google, easily would have had a correct reference). The tips are allegedly categorized, but you could shake them all up and have the same book. I expect authors to put more effort and pride into their books. I felt like this one was written while she was waiting for a dental appointment.

The alleged "business" tips that the book offers amount to basic life concepts, such as 'try yoga, drink tea, experience reiki' (I'm not kidding! There are actual paragraphs dedicated to those three things...and more!) The book is more self-help, based 100% on eastern thought. And, at every turn she fits in little plugs for her own business. The first two or three were fine. At the tenth or fifteenth one, it started to piss me off. Very self-congratulatory.

If you're interested in building your business, keep looking for another book. If you're interested only in basic, basic tips for positive living, get the Kindle edition or a used copy. It's not worth the full asking price.

Buy for the last chapter, tips not so great

I have never began a book by reading the conclusion first; however, for this one I did. And I'm sure glad I did. It's a transformer. I also enjoyed the chapter intros. I did not enjoy the tips that much. They seemed to me like they were missing a spark of something.

Thank you Virginia for writing this book. It was just in time... The information contained in this book is genius. I have been following Ladies who Launch for quite some time. Reading this book has given me the shot in the arm that I guess I needed and have been desiring so that I can have my big, big dreams of opening birthings centers throughout the country come true. Anything and everything is possible. I am looking forward to delving and utilizing the tools each day so that I will come closer and closer to making/allowing my dreams to manifest. Thank you, you have given me courage and hope and the tools I ned to move forward. I am quite sure that as this book circulates, it was because of you and your courage that has enabled aa all out DREAMS WILL COME TRUE epidemic!
