Beautiful Artwork 4.5 stars

The story is okay, the first half is better than the second as it's a typical Harlequin romance. I did like the heroine a lot, as she is a stronger and more confident female than the more often written helpless heroine. What earns this one 4.5 stars is the absolutely gorgeous artwork. The lines are simply amazing, the flow of a dress, the style and flow of their hair, even his scar. The mangaka's beautiful artwork alone is worth the price of this book!

Good beginning, but wrapped up much too quickly.

The book started out at good pace, but I have a feeling that the artist realized she spent too many pages on it and had to shove the rest of the story into the last 20% of the book. It just ends up feeling rushed and there is not enough closure on the issues for it to all feel resolved. I did enjoy the characters and the gist of the story though.

This was a really good manga. I love stories about blindness or some type of elite businessman's struggles. The artwork and plot were both beautifully done. I could feel myself getting really angry or happy with the characters. Great job! >.

A dead man, a dog, a murderer, a coin, two lovers, and a tree take turns narrating this tale, which is Pamuk's follow-up to the well-reviewed but little read The New Life (1997). Set in sixteenth-century Istanbul, the novel is equal parts mystery, love story, and a philosophical discussion on the nature of art and artistic vision. Two men have been killed: Elegant, a miniaturist engaged (with others) on a book project glorifying the life of the sultan, and Enishte, the man who hired the artists to do the book. During a trip to Venice, Enishte became particularly entranced with the new Italian painting, particularly its use of perspective and figurative art. He urged his employees to adapt the new art form in their illustrations of the grand book they are producing. Black, Enishte's nephew, wants to win the hand of Enishte's daughter, Shekure, which he can only do by solving the murders. This intellectual mystery will appeal to fans of Eco, Pears, and Perez-Reverte. Nancy Pearl

A Mystery of Characters

This novel is a masterwork murder mystery - it shouldn't be limited by inclusion in that genre, but a murder is the prime motivational factor. It's easy to see why Pamuk won the Nobel Prize - his skill is great. This novel is all about characters; each chapter is narrated by a different character, not all even human, nor sentient. Pure genius. It's also a very rich description of Ottoman Turkey - or one segment of it - and that causes the action to move slowly, purposefully slowly. So, it's not for quick beach read. Notably, the translation is excellent, happily because I don't read Turkish. Wish I could give 4.5 stars - it's better than 4, but translation and editing errors, and some slight heavy slowness, keep it from 5 in my opinion.

A BOOK OF RARE QUALITY

RED is not a quick read. It is a book that demands your full attention. However, that attention will be abundantly rewarded. Pamuk is an author of such great talent that I would rank him with Calvino and Borges. And, like those two great artists, Pamuk presents you with many puzzles, many visions, and vivid details of lives both real and imaginary.

Superficially, RED is a murder mystery--and a very fine one--but I doubt that any reader who has gotten beyond the first 15 pages would continue reading merely to solve the mystery. As you read, Pamuk provides you with a great variety of treats: a living picture of Istanbul in 1550, a window into the lives of the master miniaturists of the period, an exploration of the attitudes of Islam towards varying degrees of artistic realism, a finely-nuanced love quadrangle, etc. And, the narrator of each chapter is, fairly often, an object rather than a person. These non-human narrators fit seamlessly into the telling of the story: there is nothing self-conscious about them. My favorite narrator of this kind is a gold piece; you learn where it was minted, where it has traveled, what it might buy, what it feels about being counterfeit--and, of course, how it feels about its role in the larger narrative. This chapter is a tour de force, but then so are the chapters with more usual narrators.

I cannot imagine the research involved in the creation of such a novel, but Pamuk wears this erudition lightly. When I read this book, I felt as if I had been casually welcomed into listening to the conversation of not one, but several, story-tellers of great fascination.

Another plus: there is no complex vocabulary--merely complex ideas gracefully presented.

This book is very hard to put down, but it is rich in so many ways that it would be a shame to rush greedily through it. Better to savor every page. You will very seldom come across writing this good.

This is a fantastic book. In my opinion the author fully deserves his Nobel prize. I appreciate his innovative technique of alternatively allowing various characters to assume the role of the narrator in the same scene in consecutive chapters. It's like you get into the mind of each dinner guest in turn. Sometimes such narrator may even be inanimate objects such as a picture on the wall, or a gold coin in the pocket! Once you read the first chapter, which is only about 5 pages, I guarantee you'd be hooked for good. I'd give it 5 stars but for the distasteful, repeated and clearly unnecessary reference to sex with "beautiful boys". Sex with a minor, as in Lolita, as long as done in good and non-vulgar taste, in my opinion is acceptable, barely. I do not condone it, but accept it; viewing it as part of literature. In this book, it does not pass this acid test. A marvelous find and a great read except for the final point.

Seigel introduces readers to cosmopolitan Afro-Brazilians and African Americans who rarely traveled far from home but who nonetheless absorbed ideas from abroad. She suggests that studies comparing U.S. and Brazilian racial identities as two distinct constructions are misconceived. Racial formation transcends national borders; attempts to understand it must do the same.

ONE OF LOUISE HAY'S BEST CD'S EVER! IT IS SO SOOTHING!

Since 1988, I have listened to Louise Hay and bought her books. This particular CD is one of Louise Hay's best work ever! This is a short CD only about 30 minutes (great to listen to in the morning before starting the day or on a break at work). This is a very soothing CD The sound quality is excellent and the message truly inspired me to think about:

1) How to love yourself and how to accept yourself. (Part One)

2) How to forgive yourself and others. (Part Two)

This CD I will listen to often because it has caused me to realize just how important it is to love yourself and forgive yourself for past mistakes and to forgive others. It it true freedom to do thse things! I highly recommend this to anyone in need of making a positive change to your life! It really works!

This CD is apt to move you !!!

I was at a group Dec 11 where this CD was used. When done and the lights raised at least half present had tears in thier eyes. It is a powerful excercise in letting go, forgiving the past and meeting the future. Louise Hays CD's and tapes have been helping people for almost two decades. They are the best of the best. If you can buy only one, start with " You can heal your life" ( The book that made her famous and helped millions.) Most likely if you are like the rest of us, you will soon therafter want to own her CD's and tapes. Don't hesitate to buy her products. You are worth it!

Buy the printed copy, if you must buy this book.

I purchased the ebook copy thinking it would have a search function, like every other ebook on the market; however, it did not. I cannot understand why a company publishing computer-based learning literature does not come with a simple search function. If I had known beforehand, I would've purchased the printed copy. Do you really want to trust the content of a book from a company who fails to include very basic ebook functions.

If you can, do not support this company.

Horrible company

Book never came. It's been a month. Filed for a refund with Amazon. Customer service is horrible. They never looked into the case all they kept saying was it takes 14 business days to come. Tracking information stayed the same for a month and finally realized this book was never going to come so cancelled the order.

DID NOT GET WHAT I PAID FOR!!

I am highly disappointed because I purchased this product expecting to get the CD with it to complete my course work and only got the book. This really upsets me and I wish I could speak with someone about this problem, but oh well looks like I have to give my instructor some boring excuse thanks to Amazon!!!

More goodness from The Player's Club!

I have truly enjoyed all the books in the Marriage Diaries series! The Player's Club is the fantastic spin off and it just gets better with each story. This is Jase and Kendall's story. It's steamy, sexy and complex. Their story was a great addition to the series. All the old players make a brief appearance in this story and it's always wonderful to catch up with Dean and Jillian!

In Seduction, we see a determined Jase trying everything he can to get Kendall's attention. He simply wants a chance to be with her but Kendall is fighting him tooth and nail - she simply refuses to try no matter how hot their attraction is. Kendall feels she has many reasons to fight her growing need for Jase - she's 35. He's 27. She's established and set in her career as a photographer and running a successful business. He just left the armed services and is finding his way. Most importantly she wanted marriage and family. He clearly was not ready to settle down. After a devastating divorce, Kendall will not settle for less than her dreams. How can she pursue anything with Jase knowing he can't give her all that she needs?

One invitation to The Player's Club and a night of decadence may just change Kendall's mind for good! And what a night it turns out to be! WOW!

This was such a great read! I did not want to put it down until it was done. Erika has done a fantastic job and given us another divine couple with off the charts chemistry. Despite their age differences and being at different places in their lives, it was fun watching them work to bridge the divide. Reading that last page was painful! I kept turning hoping for more of Jase and Kendall. So so good!

I love Wilde's work...and this was no exception! This story was very hot and steamy...Kendall and Jase were extremely hot together and I really liked both characters. Sometimes when you have one person wanting a relationship and the other not sure, the personality of one of the characters can be annoying. Not so here. Jase was very earnest and Kendall was still getting her feet under her from her horrible ex.
I had two issues with the book which prevented it from being a 5 star for me. First...35 and 27 isn't REALLY that much of an age difference. Kendall kept going on about how Jase was still figuring himself out...and that might have been the case, but the man had been in the military and now had a full time career...it wasn't like he was 22 and just out of college. He seemed to know just what he wanted and I didn't think the age difference was enough to base their whole "disagreement" over what kind of relationship they'd have on it. The second issue was how it ended. Don't get me wrong, I love me some HEA, but it seemed to me that Jase was "forced" into the relationship. I would've liked to have seen him get over his "I'm not ready" thoughts on his own. *shrugging*
Again, that didn't make me DISlike the book, I just would've rather seen it go a different way. But the sex scenes were hot, the chemistry between the H and h was off the charts. I'll definitely be reading this again. *Gifted by the publisher through NetGalley for an honest review*

The Player's Club series has another winning hand with this one!

This latest story in the Player's Club series (of which each can be read as a standalone) uses the backdrop of the Player's Club, a local sex club where any and all fantasies can be indulged, to give the characters a chance for some no holds barred interactions. In this case it's Kendall who gets a free night's pass to the club, and uses it with the intention of finding a hot guy to give her a night to remember. The only problem? That hot guy turns out to be her friend Jase, a security expert who just so happens to have modelled for her at her boudoir photography company. She's resisted his advances before, mostly due to their age difference as she is eight years older than him and her life is on a different path than his. But after one night together at the club, their connection is intense enough to have Kendall reconsidering her feelings about getting involved. Can Jase convince her that together they could have a winning hand?

I really enjoyed this story! I like stories with strong female heroines who know their mind and that's the case here. Kendall is proud of her home grown photography business and has no qualms about the move she's made into taking more risque pictures as a boudoir photographer. Jase is doing her a favour by posing for a romance cover shoot, his attractive good looks and comfort in front of the camera making him a great choice for her pictures. She knows that Jase would like to pursue something more with her but she's been burned before. Her ex used her to put him through school, then dumped her, leaving her dreams of children and a loving family in the dust. She's 35 - she wants to be settled and raising children, with a partner who wants the same thing.

Jase on the other hand is a playboy, not nearly ready for marriage or settling down. But it doesn't stop him from wanting to pursue a relationship with Kendall, and truthfully his motivation in being a model for her is to get close to her. Just because Jase doesn't want marriage and children at this point in his life doesn't mean he isn't ready for something more intense than the dating, hookup scene. He comes across as a mature and strong man in his own right, and he is a committed and dependable employee at the security firm he works for. After the night they share together at the Player's Club, he's able to convince Kendall that they should explore their connection further. His feelings for Kendall are much stronger than even he expected them to be, and the thought of breaking up with her after their mutually agreed upon fling is over tears at something inside him.

With the intense attraction between them, it's no surprise that they share several steamy scenes together. Jase is a commanding presence in the bedroom, and Kendall is happy to let him take charge, though she also brings some toys in for extra fun. Their sex scenes are pretty scorching! But great sex isn't enough and for a while it seems as though the story can't possibly have a happy ending, with two people who are firm in their feelings about the future. For me, that's the mark of a good writer, someone who makes you care enough about the characters that you worry that they won't find a way to compromise, especially when they have very strong held and opposing beliefs about what they are looking for. I wasn't sure how it could possibly come out with a happy ending, but lucky for us it does and the ending is sweet and satisfying. 4.5 stars for this sexy, enjoyable romance!

Este libro nos relata la historia de una familia desde un punto de vista de una mascota, nos cuenta como a veces cosas tan obvias no las tomamos en cuenta y como muchas veces hay que luchar para superar los obst�culos que se nos presentan diariamente. La historia esta bien contada, es claro y bien redactado.
